After portraying the Rebel hero Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and two seasons of Andor, Diego Luna is understandably emotional regarding the end of the series.
Speaking to Deadline, Luna revealed that he's sad the show will end but excited for fans to see what he and the rest of the cast have done in the show's second season.
"I can tell you, I’m sad... Because it’s the last season...it’s the end."Diego Luna at the Golden Globe Awards.
While Luna admitted sadness about the show's end, which likely marks the end of his journey as Cassian Andor, he added "I’m excited for audiences to watch, it’s been a long journey. it’s cool." Diego was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series for his performance in La Maquina. Although he didn't win, there's a good chance he could end up with another nomination for Andor Season 2, which premieres April 22 on Disney+.
Diego's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story co-star Felicity Jones, nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her performance in The Brutalist, was also in attendance. Ewan McGregor attended with his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and was up for an award for his performance in A Gentleman in Moscow.
Unlike Season 1, Andor's final season will feature more cameos, including the return of important characters from Rogue One. Director Orson Krennic actor Ben Mendelsohn is one of the big names confirmed for Season 2. As the final season covers four years before the events of Rogue One, the Rebel Alliance will take center stage, which means the show will take us back to Yavin 4 and several other important locations, including Coruscant.
A few weeks ago, Felicity Jones' comments also sparked hopes of her possible return in Season 2. There's a good chance that if Felicity returns as Jyn Erso, she'll be joined on screen by Mads Mikkelsen, who plays Galen Erso, the man behind the Death Star. Mikkelsen's appearance at the Star Wars Celebration was confirmed a few months ago, which raises the likelihood of his return as Galen Erso.
Meanwhile, Andor Season 2 promotions will likely pick up as Skeleton Crew will end in a couple of weeks, and the next live-action show in line is Andor. With the Star Wars Celebration in Japan this April, the show's cast, including Diego Luna, will be present to promote the highly anticipated final season of the series. Andor Season 2 cost nearly $291 million to produce, and the series will cover the last 4 years of Cassian's life before the events of Rogue One.
