Did Dave Filoni hint the fate of Ezra for Star Wars: Rebels?
Star Wars: Rebels Season 4 is upon us already, with the show’s conclusion just beyond the horizon. What will become of the main character, Ezra Bridger?
All the paths are coming together for season four of Star Wars: Rebels, where the show is set on a collision course with the events of Rogue One and A New Hope, with the fate of the show’s main character’s hanging in the balance. Dave Filoni — Supervising director for Rebels — may have given us a glimpse into the future of the kid who hails from Lothal, with his latest artwork he graciously posted on social media.
Filoni has been known to be playful with fans — and the cast and crew — with the fate of main characters, just take Ahsoka Tano for example, where he has teased fans with artwork of Ahsoka after her duel with Darth Vader, hinting that she has gone into the underworld of the Force. This image is no different, with Ezra gazing into the skyline, with his pal Chopper and a cute Loth-cat at his side. It doesn’t seem like much at first, but upon closer inspection, however, this could be quite telling. With Ezra’s fate taking a turn down a darker path — which is possible to end with his death and/or the death of his Rebel family — this picture could hold a few clues to his whereabouts during the events of A New Hope.

That star could be the planet of Alderaan being blown to smithereens by the Death Star, where Ezra could already be reeling from the loss of his Master (Kanan) — who is likely to meet his demise by the show’s conclusion. Another possibility is that the “star” or “moon” — that’s no moon — could be the super-weapon itself within Ezra’s view. What a tragic way to end Ezra’s heroes arc — while beginning his villain path — than to end Rebels with his perspective of the planet killer’s destruction of Alderaan, sending him spiraling down into the Dark Side?
If Ezra does survive, there are so many possibilities to his destiny, so we will take a crack at where the young Padawan could end up. There have been rumors floating around out there that Ezra is Supreme Leader Snoke — which makes me laugh every time. No way he is the mysterious Dark Side presence from the Unknown Regions.

It his more likely that he ventures into the unknown, becoming a disciple of Snoke, however — maybe the Knights of Ren is founded by Ezra? A popular theory, which I really would like to come to fruition, is that Ezra is the mysterious D.J. from the upcoming The Last Jedi. Here me out on this one. Before Ezra started his Jedi training with Kanan, he was a con-artist and street-rat, who used the Force (unknowingly) to survive.
Imagine a (nearly) fully trained version of Ezra who has lost it all, who goes back to what he does best — surviving. This “D.J.” is known to be a splicer — basically a hacker and decoder, so it would be really cool to have Rebels connect in the larger scale picture of Star Wars, venturing into the saga films. You can also see a scar on D.J. in the image below, which Ezra has as well. Remember, this picture is flipped, so the scar placement adds up.

Now it’s highly likely that Ezra could sacrifice himself for the cause or just go about his way never to be seen again, but it would be great for him to play a larger role within the Star Wars galaxy.
